I got this email recently saying: “I am looking for quotes for my wedding” and I knew straight away that Photography was not a priority for them. And that is ok, but chances are we will not be working together, and that is totally fine too. My priority is to give my clients the best photos and the best experience. Are you looking for the best that your money can buy? Or are you buying as cheap as you can find? My advice is, invest in the photographer you like the best, and try to accommodate to his/her fees. Additional services and products, such as albums, prints, or extra hours of coverage, may be offered as add-ons at an additional cost. Ensure that you have a clear understanding of what is included in the base price and what will incur additional charges.
Negotiation: While some photographers have fixed prices, others may be open to negotiation, especially if your wedding is during the off-season or on a weekday. Please respect the photographer´s work and appreciate that photographers need to maintain a certain level of fees in order to sustain a successful long-term business. In my honest opinion, I might consider offering a reduction for an off-season wedding, but truth be told, the amount of work is the same, and your expectations are going to be equally as high, so the reduction will be limited.

Negotiating and finalizing the contract with your chosen photographer

Once you have found the perfect photographer for your dream wedding in Mallorca, it’s time to negotiate and finalize the contract. A clear and comprehensive contract is essential to protect both parties and ensure that all expectations are met. Here are some important points to consider when finalizing the contract:

Coverage and hours: Clearly define the number of hours of coverage the photographer will provide on your wedding day. Specify the start and end times to avoid any confusion. My standard coverage for a full day is 8 hours.
Number of edited photos: Discuss the rough number of edited photos you can expect to receive. This will depend on the package you choose and the photographer’s workflow. My philosophy is not to get obsessed with the number of photos as much as with the quality of those photos! You could get a thousand photos but have 990 mediocre images. I usually aim for 500 to 600 good photos for a full day.
Delivery timeline: Inquire about the delivery timeline for the final edited photos. It’s important to have a clear understanding of when you can expect to receive your wedding photos. I am very quick and my delivery timeline is 4 to 6 weeks after the wedding. I deliver my photos on a beautiful Pic-Time gallery.
Print and usage rights: Discuss the print and usage rights of the photos. Determine if you will have the freedom to print and share the photos as you wish or if there are any restrictions. Most of the times, you will have all the rights you need, except the copyright for publishing the photos on places such as magazines stays with the photographer. Bear in mind that the contract will include a model release, where you allow the photographer to post images on social media and web/blog. If you do not want this, some photographers will add an extra fee, some will not want to shoot your wedding, and others will accept it. However, for me, it gives me an extra dosis of motivation when shooting a wedding, being able to share my work online. This gets me excited as like any other photographer, couples hire me based on what they see online and on social media.
Payment terms: Outline the payment terms in the contract, including the deposit amount, payment schedule, and accepted payment methods. I take cash, transfer and credit cards. In order to book me, I will need a 40% deposit, and the rest is due two weeks before the wedding. These terms are very standard in Mallorca and all over Europe.
