Hey there, lovebirds and shutterbugs! So, you’ve chosen the dreamy island of Mallorca as the backdrop for your special day? Congratulations! You’ve just taken the first step towards an unforgettable wedding experience. Now, let’s talk about how to make those memories last a lifetime with some jaw-dropping photography.
Mallorca isn’t just a paradise for beach bums and sun-seekers; it’s also a haven for couples looking to tie the knot in a picture-perfect setting. With its breathtaking landscapes, historic architecture, and charming villages, Mallorca offers a variety of stunning locations for your wedding photoshoot. So, grab your most stunning dress and let’s explore some of the most romantic spots across the island.
- Palma Old Town: Let’s kick things off in the heart of Mallorca’s capital, Palma. Wander through the narrow cobblestone streets of the Old Town, my favorite part, where every corner is a postcard-worthy scene waiting to be captured. From centuries-old architecture to colorful facades adorned with blooming bougainvillea, this historic district is a treasure trove of photo opportunities. Make sure you pick a sunny day because some of these narrow lanes can get dark.
- Tip #1: In the summer time, when it´s packed with tourists, make sure you go very early in the morning, around 7 or 8am, as to avoid missing photo opportunities.
- Tip #2: Head to the walls by the lake of the iconic La Seu Cathedral during golden hour for some truly magical shots.
- Tip #3: Head over to Carrer Sant Jaume, one of my favorite streets, for a Parisian feel if you want something more glam. Check out the gallery of Rebecca and Eric around the Old Town.
2. Serra de Tramuntana: Calling all nature lovers! Escape the busy streets of Palma and venture into the scenic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. With its rugged cliffs, lush forests of pine trees and holm oaks, wild goats grazing and panoramic vistas, this UNESCO World Heritage Site provides a dramatic backdrop for your wedding portraits. Whether you’re hiking to a secluded spot or posing against a backdrop of centuries-old olive trees, the Tramuntana Mountains promise to add a touch of adventure and wild romance to your photoshoot. If you ever need a hiking guide who is also a photographer, my husband Alberto is the perfect choice! Call him on t. +34 685 191840.
As a frequent hiker, my favorite spots are all along the cliffs. I love the Sant Elm area in the south, with views of Sa Dragonera (the little island in front of it), the Valldemossa-Deià coast line, where you can go to the picturesque little village of S´Estaca, enjoy the magnificent views near finca Miramar and Port de Sóller area, following es Refugi de Sa Muleta and Faro de Sóller trails.
3. Valldemossa: Tucked away in the Tramuntana mountains, the picturesque village of Valldemossa exudes charm and romance at every turn. It is one of the most popular spots in the mountains, so it can get full in the high season. Lose yourself in its maze of winding streets and be prepared to walk up and down the steep streets lined with stone houses, draped in ivy and colorful flowers. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Royal Carthusian Monastery, where the likes of Chopin and George Sand found inspiration amidst its tranquil courtyards and gardens.
- Insider Tip #1: Visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and capture the village bathed in soft, golden light. Some of my favorite narrow lanes are further down the village.
- Insider Tip #2: Do not miss the opportunity to drink the traditional almond slushy and the “coca de patata” bun, a local specialty bun made of potato flour.
- Insider Tip #3: The garden of the Cartoixa has public access, a nice spot for photos.
4. Santanyí Calas: If you’re dreaming of a beach wedding, look no further than the pristine coves of Santanyí area. With their crystal-clear turquoise waters and golden sands, these secluded beaches offer a picture-perfect setting for an intimate ceremony, elopement or a romantic photoshoot. Whether you’re exchanging vows against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs or stealing a kiss beneath a swaying palm tree, Santanyí Calas is sure to set the scene for a fairytale wedding by the sea.
- Tip #1: S´Amarador is one of my favorite beaches in that area but for photos, also head over to Cala Santanyi.
- Tip #2: If you are looking for the most amazing panoramic, you cannot miss Es Pontàs, a natural arch emerging in the sea near the beach. This arch is located between Cala Santanyí and Caló des Macs and it will give you the most spectacular views!
- Tip #3: Take the opportunity to walk around the Natural Mondragó Park, one of the little bits of preserved land on the coast in that area. Please be respectful of the environment.
5. Cap de Formentor: Last but certainly not least, we have the dramatic cliffs of Cap de Formentor, where the rugged coastline meets the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. This iconic landmark at the northern tip of Mallorca boasts some of the most breathtaking views on the island, making it a favorite spot for adventurous couples seeking epic wedding photos. Climb to the lighthouse perched atop the cliffs or explore the hidden coves below for a truly unforgettable photoshoot experience.
- Insider Tip #1: Make sure to check the calendar for car access restrictions on the road to the lighthouse.
- Insider Tip#2: Stop by the Formentor beach before or after, for some more relaxing photo opportunities and why not, treat yourself to a coffee at the newly renovated Formentor Hotel beach club, scheduled for re-opening on June 2024.
- Insider Tip #3: On the way to Formentor, take a stroll around Port de Pollensa, a picturesque port with a retro vibe.
So there you have it, lovebirds! Whether you’re saying “I do” against the backdrop of a medieval castle or stealing a kiss on a secluded beach at sunset, Mallorca offers countless of enchanting locations for your wedding photography. Remember to embrace the beauty of your surroundings, soak in the magic of the moment, and let your love story unfold against the backdrop of this Mediterranean paradise.
